Oct 1  General Meeting - Change of Speaker

There has been a change in guest speakers for our October Meeting. Originally, I had Lee Behel, who came in Third Place this year racing his Lancair at Reno. Family business is taking him to New York, so in his place, our October Guest Speaker will be JAY SKOVBJERG. Jay built and flew his Cozy II solo to Alaska. His presentation was recommended to me by several people, so this is a meeting you should not miss.

Oct 3  EAA 1476 Breakfast and Fly-in
EAA Chapter 1476 will be hosting a breakfast and an EAA Fly-in Forum for Northern California EAA Chapters at Rancho Murieta Airport (KRIU).

n addition to providing a “free” breakfast, we plan to conduct a forum for attending EAA members. This will provide Regional EAA members an opportunity to get together and talk about EAA related activities. The attendance of Chapter leaders is desirable and encouraged. Please also encourage your members to attend and let us know how many will be coming.

There are many Chapters in our area, and there is much to be achieved by occasionally talking to one another. Although we have been fairly active, we are a relatively new Chapter,. We can all learn from talking with others. Each Chapter is unique and has varying interests and activities. Help us all learn what works for your chapter and why.

We have a large hanger available where we plan to set up tables and chairs for breakfast commencing at 8:30 am. After breakfast we will have organized discussions. We welcome input and assistance from all Northern California Chapters. National Headquarters likes what we are attempting to do and is excited about our efforts to network with other chapters in our area. We hope to have their representation at our event.

What could be better, we are offering a good breakfast, hopefully a nice day, some good fellowship, and a reason to fly somewhere. In addition, you may get a chance to see some special fly-in airplanes, which other chapter members have built or restored.

Please rsvp with number attending by e-mail: sd-raymond at comcast.net or rjvalladao at sbcglobal.net..

Apr 21 - Apr 25  EAA 62 Fly-Out to Portherville (KPTV) Fly-In

The "All Red Star" event is an annual owners gathering and fly-in for aircraft owners, pilots, enthusiasts, vendors, suppliers and service specialists supporting former Soviet and ex-communist designed aircraft imported to the United States - warbird, sport, aerobatics, jet or prop - all are represented at All Red Star. The motto of All Red Star is “Serious Fun!.”

The event will be held at Porterville Airport (KPTV) in Central California and is the largest collections of such imported aircraft anywhere in the country, with over 50 aircraft visiting the event last year from Mig 21, L-29 & L-39 Jets to CJ6 & Yak 52 prop planes. The event hosts an aggressive educational and training schedule which includes FAST formation, aerobatics, and unusual attitude recovery skills. Ground presentations include bailout and parachuting as well as engine & air frame service and repair. All Warbirds are welcome to attend!

The RedStar Pilots Association is a Federal 501(c)(3) Not-For-Profit registered in the state of Virginia. The association mission is to promote and preserve the safe operation, display and enjoyment of all aircraft, jet to prop, aerobatic, sport, warbird and utility, especially those originating in the current and former communist block nations. The RPA strives to function as a clearing house for information related to maintenance and safe operation of our aircraft. Through our designated Check Pilots and Instructor Pilots we develop standards, principles and techniques for training member pilots in the operation of their aircraft and in formation flying.

Jun 19 - Jun 20  Fathers Day Fly-in Columbia

I am indebted to Terri Gorman for the following: ===================================================== I didn't notice that you have a fly out to Columbia on Father's Day Weekend. I don't have a calendar before me, but every year, on Father's Day, there is an air show at the Columbia Airport. I think the dates are June 19th and 20th. Columbia, as you may know, has a pilots-only campground. We attend this every year. The air show is more like fly-bys, but lots of old cars, trucks, etc, planes, etc, flights for sale, everything happens at Columbia on that weekend. For folks flying in or driving in on Friday, the 18th, there's a barbeque with lots of trimmings for $5.00 per person. It used to be 'donations-only', but I guess not enough people donated, so now it's $5 each. Saturday and Sunday mornings, there's a great breakfast provided by the local aviators and last year it was 'how do you want your eggs cooked', plus ham or sausage, juice, fruit, coffee or tea for around $7. Don't quote me on the price, but it's 'el cheapo' and very good. Camping is great, under the trees, free real showers, real toilets, etc, real cool. Saturday Night, Tri-tip Dinner .. never attended, so can't remember the price, but I'm sure it's reasonable. Aircraft judging on Saturday; Flour bomb, spot landing on Sunday. Temporary Tower 127.9 Ground 121.05 Fly-in/Overnight camping, $8.00 Airport closure Noon to 3 PM on Saturday and Sunday Motels, Inns and Hotels close to the airport. http://www.fathersdayflyin.com We'll be there. Would be nice to see some other chapter members there, too. Our kids and their kids usually come by to visit and/or we are transporting them up there. It's very inexpensive, too, and Columbia is a short 45 min flight from the Bay Area.
